Cockroaches
Take the proactive approach, check for these signs on your property. Cockroaches – Sightings of cockroaches are most common, but there are other signs of cockroach infestation. These include droppings that are approx. 2mm long and dark in colour. They usually produce these droppings when little water is available. When adequate water is available, cockroaches will leave brown smear marks along horizontal surfaces where they crawl. Cockroaches will also leave behind pieces of their exoskeletons as part of their moulting process.
Where to look for signs of cockroaches on your property?
- Bathrooms
- Kitchen
- Behind & under large appliances
- Drains
How to spot them and where to look.

Flies
Sightings of flies around the property, especially around food and waste disposal areas. Flies also leave behind faeces that resemble a small cluster of black dots. Finally, there are also maggots in dark areas.
Spiders
Webs, webs and more webs. Spiders leave them incupboards, storage areas to catch their prey and provide aclear signal of infestation.
Ants
Because they exist in their thousands, it’s easy to spot ants as they go in search for food, to and from their colony. They create sticky trails for these journeys and though mainly transparent, they provide enough evidence of an ant problem. Ant’s nests are also a common sight, appearing as little mounds of dirt, situated close to the property (shorter journey for food & water). Larger ants can inflict serious damage onto property infrastructure, when they chew upon wood and electrical wires. Besides the obvious damage, they will also leave a dusty residue in the damaged area.
Silverfish
Small holes on wood, clothes, wallpaper and even books, are a sign of silverfish. They also tend to reside in wall cracks, from which they can be seen emerging.
